Abbotsford Middle alternate energy project launched a new alternate energy project that drives a computer lab at Abbotsford Middle School.  Three alternate energy sources are in place at the school – a wind turbine, solar panels and a bicycle driven generator—supply power for the lab and the school grid.  New technology allows two computers to power 12 stations, resulting in even more power savings. The project recently received local, provincial and national media coverage, and appears to be the only such powered lab in Canada.

Burns Bog Conservation Society

GET INVOLVED!

The Burns Bog Conservation Society needs your help to carry out its programs. This includes providing facilities for public enjoyment (the boardwalks in the Delta Nature Reserve is an example), providing education (this includes bog-related educational material, field trips, summer day camps and public displays) and raising public awareness about current issues relating to peatlands, especially Burns Bog.

Delta, BC: As Environment Canada warns against the BC Government’s plan to put a truck highway through the historic community of Delta – saying it would destroy Burns Bog – federal Opposition Leader Stephane Dion visits the bog to learn about this unique and vital ecosystem and how an alternate route could save the Bog and avert other disasters like home expropriation, loss of farmland and sickness from air pollution.

The Fraser Valley Conservancy is a regional land trust committed to placing lands in trust for our future. In achieving this mission, we support and encourage voluntary land stewardship and provide conservation tools for those that wish to protect land of ecological and historic significance.

Land Stewardship: We provide advice and assistance to landowners completing wildlife habitat improvement projects including native planting and invasive species pulls. We also offer signed stewardship agreements.

Toad Rescue: We organize volunteers to assist with the annual migration of the Ryder Lake Western Toad population. We also are working towards long term solutions to reduce adult and juvenille toad mortality from vehicle traffic.

Species at Risk Workshops: We offer technical training for environmental consultants and municipalities working to protect at risk habitat.

  3. I was shocked to view the video of Stephane Dion touring and listen to the statement that the government used deteriorating health as an Economic factor for the increase of health workers and considered this a benefit.
